no offence but I dont give two shits how big a carbon footprint inhalers and other medical equipment have when theyre keeping someone alive. like sorry you shouldnt feel guilty over the medical device that allows you to breathe when shell can guzzle oil directly into a birds mouth and nothing happens

but genuinely, for real, plastic isn’t cheap, it isn’t worthless, and it isn’t trash. plastic is incredibly fucking valuable and costly from both a material and an environmental standpoint – and it is really, really good for specifically medical applications. the amount of improvement in medicine that has been brought about by the presence of single use, sterilized plastic items is fucking insane. it keeps people safe. if we were doing things right, medicine and sanitary applications would be the only thing we used plastic for because it’s really fucking good at it and it saves lives.

medical use of plastic is not the problem. it’s artificially shoving plastic into thousands upon thousands of non-essential products that could be made with something else or done away with altogether! we are wasting plastic. it is a shameful waste to use sacred, ripped-from-the-earth-at-a-terrible-cost plastic that could have made someone’s life safer for amazon packaging. treating it as worthless or a guilty useless trash is not helpful: you should feel outraged that someone decided to waste this precious material that was bought with the blood of the earth. plastic is really, really valuable. we should start treating it that way.

fruit-in-jars 101 by stacynguyen

“What is jam? What makes something authentically jam? Can bacon really be made into jam?

It was all very Existentialist.

The answer to those questions is a bit complicated and non-definitive. The U.S. FDA has defined jam and jelly in very specific and mathematical terms (such-and-such percentage of juice to fruit to water to sugar = jam/jelly); it also uses jam and preserve interchangeably, for the most part. While interesting, the FDA’s definitions did not matter much to me because the FDA wasn’t really using the terms in the way that we usually use the terms. Also, the FDA wasn’t comprehensive in its definitions. It didn’t tackle other fruit spreads like marmalades or curds, for instance.

The more I looked into, the more I thought, dude, this information would make a good infographic.”

Okay I just have to laugh at all these zero-head takes about the one “anarchist” arrested in the Gov. Gretchen Whitmer militia terror plot. Brandon Caserta’s image is being spread online as proof that this was “ANTIFA terrorism” because he had an anarchist flag behind him in some videos:

image

aaaaand you know what else this dork had? A “Don’t Tread on Me,” flag, a Bill of Rights poster, and his social media was plastered with anti-mask/coronavirus bullshit, support for Kyle Rittenhouse and “killing commies.”

Plus, the particular terror plot they were arrested for was to kidnap Gov. Whitmer and violently institute a government where THEY were in charge, styled in the society that followed the U.S. Bill of Rights. Like these guys are all American government-obsessed dork, LARPers who called themselves the “Wolverine Watchmen” I have to laugh.

PLEASE PLEASE I BEG YOU FOR FUCKS SAKE at some point learn that not all  “”ANARCHISTS”” are simpatico and some are actually pretty fucking right-leaning in their ideology especially these ancap losers who just want nu-feudalism. and Brandon Caserta is clearly the biggest a loser dork bitch of them all.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

as a general rule. if what we’re calling ‘cultural appropriation’ sounds like nazi ideology (i.e. ‘white people should only do white people things and black people should only do black people things’) with progressive language, we are performing a very very poor application of what ‘cultural appropriation’ means. this is troublingly popular in the blogosphere right now and i think we all need to be more critical of what it is we may be saying or implying, even unintentionally.

There is nothing wrong with everyone enjoying each other’s cultures so long as those cultures have been shared

Eating Chinese food, watching Bollywood movies, going to see Cambodian dancers, or learning to speak Korean so you can watch every K drama in existence is totally fine. The invitation to participate in those things came from within those cultures. The Mexican family that owns the place where I get fajitas wants me to eat fajitas. Their whole business model kind of depends on it, actually.

If you see something from another culture you think you might want to participate in, but you don’t know if that would be disrespectful or appropriative, you can just…ask. Like. A Jewish friend explained what a mezuzah was to me, recently. (It’s the little scroll-thing near their front doors that they touch when they come into their house. It basically means “this is a Jewish household.”)

“Oh, cool,” I said. “Can I touch it? Or is it only for Jewish people?”

“You can touch it or you can not touch it,” she said. “I don’t care.”

“Cool, I’m gonna touch it, then.”

“Cool.”

It’s not hard.

You want to twerk, twerk. I’ve never heard a black person say they didn’t think anybody else should be allowed to twerk. Just that they want us to acknowledge that they invented that shit, not Miley fucking Cyrus.

this is a good post.

Thank you, I was trying to sort this out in my head but you explained it very well.

#free exchange of culture is great - taking that culture without invite and pretending yours is an original take#(worse still profiting off it)#is cultural appropriation (by @gnimaerd)

Categorizing this art is remarkably difficult. Level design as accompaniment to Ride of the Valkyries? What genre is this? What discipline is this? Is this scenography?

There is not a single thing I like about that track why was the car going in a straight line BUT HALF HANGING OFF THE TRACK ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME
